Biography

Wisdom Keeper Cheryl Angel is an indigenous leader and venerable Lakota Sioux Elder and Water Protector from the United States (Turtle Island). With the slogan ‘Water is Life’ she was one of the original pillars of the nonviolent resistance of the Lakota people at Sacred Stone Camp/Standing Rock. She speaks about the ‘7 Generation Principle,’ which includes the generations before and after us in our decision-making, so that we can ensure a more sustainable world for our children and grandchildren. In addition to tirelessly working within her own community, Cheryl is an advocate for the global indigenous community, traveling as a spokeswoman for the documentary film KIVA: Call of the Wisdom Keepers.
