Biography

Hera Pierce is recognized by both Indigenous people and non-Māori as an expert on the impacts of family violence and sexual violence within families and communities. Her extensive knowledge, expertise, and practice are deeply rooted in the values and principles, fundamental to Māori healing from trauma and fostering well-being. Hera is passionate about working within her Māori community, and is committed to educating current and future generations about the sacredness of the essence of humanity, the divine, the womb of mother earth, and the wisdom of the ancestors. Drawing on her vast Māori knowledge and fluency in the Māori language and its customs, she provides services and support that are culturally relevant and tailored to the specific needs of the communities that she serves. Pou Atawhai Hera Pierce is a respected cultural leader holding many ancient stories/korero. Hera delves into the many puna that hold the mataurangi/knowledge. This knowledge informs her hospice practice where she supports people on their path before, during, and after death.
